If you have ever gazed with curiosity at the moon and desired to immortalize it in your own artwork, you may have thought just how to capture it appropriately in your drawing, and this step-by-step guide is here to direct you how.
We assembled this step-by-step guide on how to draw a moon in just 10 steps to have you draw one easily and with no hassle!
How to Draw A Moon – Let’s Start!
Step 1 — Let’s begin with drawing a half circle
In this first step of our guide on how to draw a moon, we’ll simply begin with a half circle. For this step, we will use a light pencil to draw it which we will wipe off a bit later.
Drawing a perfect half circle freehand can be rather difficult, so there are some tools you can utilize to make it easier.
A drawing compass is the finest tool to utilize if you have one. These tools include a sharp point that you can utilize to rotate around to draw a perfect half circle efficiently.
Step 2 — Add a inner curve to structure the shape of the moon
After drawing a half circle in the previous step, we will proceed further by drawing a downward curved line beginning from the above end of the circle that we drew earlier in the previous step.
The curved line extending from the above end should be drawn little apart from the outline of the previous circle sloping downward.
It will eventually structure the shape of the moon.
Step 3 — Next, add another curved line from the other end
We will leave space in the middle and therefore we will add another curved line extending from the other end of the previously drawn circle that we drew in our first step.
Step 4 — Add a face to your moon
Now after completing the curved lines on both the ends, we will add a face to our moon in the middle left space.
For drawing the face, just make some curved lines that will structure the side view of a face.
Refer to the illustration to follow the lines and curves to make a face of your moon.
Step 5 — Next, draw the eyebrow
Now after structuring the face of our moon drawing, we will add other details to it to create a proper face.
In this step of our guide on how to draw a moon, we will draw an eyebrow to make it appear as a full human-like face. For the eyebrow, draw a curve on the above-middle portion of the moon where the face starts. Enclose the curve by drawing another curve down below it.
This will form the eyebrow.
Step 6 — Now, Draw the eye
After drawing the eyebrow, we will draw the eye underneath it.
Don’t worry, this isn’t going hard, we have made it easy for you to draw. Just draw a curved shape similar to V horizontally and add a tiny oval shape in the middle of it. Add another tiny spot inside this oval shape, shade the entire oval shape except the tiny spot.
Draw a curved line above the V shape to make it appear like an eyelid.
Step 7 — Draw spots on the moon
This step will add some realism to our moon drawing as we are going to draw some dots or tiny circles on our moon that will seem like the spots on the moon.
Step 8 — Add more spots to the moon
Draw more small circles on the moon that will appear like the moon is having spots and some patches over it.
Take reference from the illustration to understand it better what we actually mean to draw.
Trace or follow the image for more descriptive guidance. It will help you to draw your moon effortlessly.
Step 9 — Draw in some star details for your moon drawing
Now that you have the main portion of your moon drawing ready, we can start to add some fun details to our moon. We shall be drawing in some little stars around the moon in this step.
In our illustration, we drew three stars around the moon, but you are free to draw in as many as you want!
You could also alter the style, size or shape of the stars to look how you’d want them to. There are no boundaries here and you can do any details that you love!
Step 10 — Now finish off your drawing by filling in colors
In the last step of our guide on how to draw a moon, you have the chance to really showcase your creativity!
This step is all about filling some beautiful colors to your drawing, and the most beautiful part of this is that there’s no right or wrong way to do this.
You can completely let your creativity wander and utilize any of your favorite colors! We have illustrated to you one way you can go about it, but it’s just a guide and you can use all manner of colors to complete it.
